College and Credit Cards

There are many choices to be made when you get to college. What classes to take; who to room with etc. Did your parents tell you that you will be hit with multiple credit card offers your first day on campus? I remember walking to my campus book store on the first day of school. By the time I actually got inside the store I had been hit with three credit card offers. "Why buy your books with cash? Just put them on a credit card." I heard that one more then once. Some students had no problem filling out the credit applications. Did they know how to manage credit or use their new shiny plastic card wisely? I am going to go out on a limb and say no. The last thing I want to do in the blog is scare young adults away from credit. The point of Early Bird Credit Training is to educate about credit. During your lifetime credit is going to be a necessity so embrace it but also understand it. More on understanding credit in the next post.

Only half of generation Y pays bills on time

By MSN Money staff

"Barely half of Generation Y pays its bills on time and a third of all adults don't know their credit scores, a financial survey released Tuesday has found". This is crazy! what is going on here? Is there any wonder why we are in a credit crisis?

"If there were ever a time that Americans needed to embrace financial literacy, it is now," said Susan C. Keating, president and CEO of the nonprofit counseling agency.
With many economists suggesting that the United States either is in a recession or is facing one, basic financial skills would help consumers stay afloat, says MSN Money Editor in Chief Richard Jenkins.
"Learning to manage money is like any other skill," Jenkins said. "You've got to take the time to learn the basics and then practice, practice, practice."

Wow, every time I read one of these articles i am completely amazed. I really do hope that here at Early Bird Credit training we can start making a difference. Our future as a country depends on it. Do you think half of the Chinese young adult population just decides they don't want to pay bills? Our economy is failing and this is why.
